Tools to clear stagnant energy and emotion
There are many simple ways you can move and clear energetic and emotional stagnation. These tools are powerful for empaths, people who are caretakers, or anyone who feels as though they need to empty out and clear their energy field. If you feel burnt out, uninspired, ungrounded, have a low or anxious mood, or feel as though you are carrying around energy that isn’t your own, the following tools and practices may bring you relief.
BATHE
Water is an incredible healing tool. Bathing helps replenish the body and mind. Bathing can look like many different things. Bathing out in nature in a body of water such as a lake or the ocean can be very powerful. If this isn't accessible to you, take a mindful shower or a bath with Epsom salts. Wherever you are, breathe deeply and let your body relax into the sensation of the water. Visualize the water clearing out any negative emotions or stagnant energy from the body.
MOVE
Memories and emotions live in the body. When you are feeling stuck or stagnant, one of the most important things you can do is move your body. This doesn’t need to look like a typical workout or even yoga. Some of the most powerful practices to clear energy can be to shake out your limbs, stomp your feet, and allow your body to move in whatever way it feels called to. Dancing can be a powerful way to shift your energy and emotional state as well. Just play music, close your eyes, and allow your body to move and dance in whatever way feels good to you. Don’t worry about how you look, allow it to flow and be intuitive. Move until you feel a release of some sort.
BREATHE
Yes, we are always breathing. But for many of us, our breath is shallow and lives in the chest. This keeps our body in a perpetual state of fight or flight. Intentional deep, diaphragmatic breath from the lower belly can help calm the body and allow it to drop into the parasympathetic nervous system. Breath work is also an extremely powerful way to shift emotions and stagnant energy. Nadi shodhana or alternative nostril breathing and kapalabhati or breath of fire are two incredible and easy to learn variations of breath work that help to clear and balance our energy.
VISUALIZE
Visualization can be a powerful tool to help clear our energy field and ground into our bodies. Allow yourself to take a comfortable seat and close your eyes. Begin deep belly breaths in and out of the nose, slowly filling up the diaphragm and slowly allowing the air to exit. Once you feel your mind has started to calm and that your focus is on the breath, begin to visualize a white glowing light starting at your heart space. As you inhale, see the light begin to expand and fill up various parts of the body with each breath in. Eventually allow the white light emanate from your body into the surrounding area. Sustain the focus on this white light and continue the meditation for as long as you feel you need, 5-10 minutes is typically enough.
Another powerful visualization to practice in your meditative state is visualizing warm water beginning to pool at the crown of your head. Imagine the sensation of this warm water, breathe into it and then slowly feel the water begin to trickle down the rest of your body to your feet as you exhale. Allow this to be slow and really imagine feeling the warm comforting water in contact with your body all the way to your toes, allowing the energy in the head to be dispersed and ground into the body. Repeat as many times you need.
